The new 3D printers aim to accelerate the industrial adoption of laser-based powder bed fusion technology for polymers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CIPRES<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a German manufacturer of laser sintering prototypes, has introduced an industrial dyeing machine for 3D printed polymer parts called the eCOLOR Type 1\/350\/1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, American multinational automaker <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ford<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has partnered with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trinckle<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Berlin-based 3D printing service provider, to automate the design process for its production tools. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lars Bognar, an engineer with Ford Research &amp; Advanced Engineering Europe, comments, &#8220;Additive manufacturing itself is no longer the dominating cost factor limiting the scalability of the application. Photo via Trinckle.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>A full-scale 3D printed bridge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polymaker<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shanghai Construction Group<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SCG) are constructing a large plastic bridge measuring 15 meters in length and weighing 5,800kg. SCG is using its 3D printer with a build chamber 24 meters long, 4 meters wide, and 1.5 meters high, with a planned expansion to 3 meters high. As a result of this formal partnership, Air Liquide will provide Additive Industries with its supply and storage solutions for shielding gasses within the build chamber. Co-inventor Andrea Bubendorfer said, \u201cMicrofabrication \u2013 the production of very small high-value devices \u2013 is an export industry for New Zealand. Until now, however, making these miniature structures has been slow and expensive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;By comparison, 3D printing has transformed how we make things, but it can\u2019t operate on the small scale needed for microfabrication. And by small, we\u2019re talking 5 microns.
