{"id":68269,"date":"2019-07-29T12:54:56","date_gmt":"2019-07-29T04:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/aerospace\/velo3d-and-praxair-partner-to-develop-metal-additive-manufacturing-powders.3dm"},"modified":"2019-07-29T12:54:56","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T04:54:56","slug":"velo3d-and-praxair-partner-to-develop-metal-additive-manufacturing-powders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/velo3d-and-praxair-partner-to-develop-metal-additive-manufacturing-powders\/","title":{"rendered":"Velo3D and Praxair partner to develop metal additive manufacturing powders"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dpsp-content-top\" class=\"dpsp-content-wrapper dpsp-shape-rectangular dpsp-size-medium dpsp-has-spacing dpsp-has-buttons-count dpsp-show-on-mobile dpsp-button-style-1\">\n<ul class=\"dpsp-networks-btns-wrapper dpsp-networks-btns-content dpsp-networks-btns-share dpsp-column-auto\">\n<li><span class=\"dpsp-network-icon\"><\/span><span class=\"dpsp-network-label-wrapper\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dpsp-network-icon\"><\/span><span class=\"dpsp-network-label-wrapper\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dpsp-network-icon\"><\/span><span class=\"dpsp-network-label-wrapper\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dpsp-network-icon\"><\/span><span class=\"dpsp-network-label-wrapper\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California-based metal additive manufacturing technology company Velo3D has partnered with<\/span> Connecticut&#8217;s<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Praxair Surface Technologies, Inc.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PST), a producer of specialty alloy-based powders, to develop and qualify process parameters for its materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPST is constantly looking for ways to help expand the number of applications that are addressable by metal additive manufacturing, and Velo3D is a great company to partner with in this effort,\u201d said Andy Shives, business manager for additive manufacturing at PST.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cVelo3D\u2019s technology enables the building of difficult geometries, which opens up new opportunities for additive manufacturing across a broad range of applications.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>The Sapphire System<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inspired by the demands of the aerospace, energy, and medical industries, Velo3D has created the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">laser powder bed metal additive 3D printer termed the Sapphire System. Designed for high volume manufacturing, this system comprises a 315mm diameter by 400mm height build envelope, with high throughput dual laser operation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the Sapphire System enables engineers to produce parts with overhangs lower than 5\u00b0, and large inner diameters without supports. According to Velo3D, such capabilities are not seen in conventional systems as they often require supports for any geometry below 45\u00b0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sapphire and Velo3D\u2019s Flow print preparation software will solidify process parameters for new alloys with Praxair\u2019s TruForm powders. Velo3D will also qualify PST as an approved supplier of powder for released parameter sets for Velo3D\u2019s additive manufacturing systems.
