Photo via Mark Redmond twitter\/American Chamber of Commerce Ireland.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>The DePuy Synthes Innovation Centre<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DePuy Synthes Innovation Centre was established a decade ago to integrate new technologies for the company\u2019s orthopedic portfolio, which includes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D printed patient-specific implants<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This new investment will specifically aid a five-year project focusing on advancing material science in 3D printing, coatings and surface treatments for higher quality implants and medical devices. In addition, a  Development and Launch Center will be established.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIreland continues to evolve its global leadership position in the manufacture of high value, highly regulated innovative products and services,\u201d stated Martin Shanahan, CEO of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IDA Ireland<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a foreign direct investment agency, who also contributed to this investment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cExemplars in this regard which truly stand on the world stage include DePuy Synthes, who have been identified as a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World Economic Forum Lighthouse<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for their process-driven digital twin programme pioneered in their \u2018Factory of the Future\u2019 in Cork. Photo via the AMBER centre.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>DePuy Synthes and 3D bioprinting <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, DePuy Synthes and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Materialise<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belgian software and 3D printing service provider, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expanded their partnership<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to develop the TRUMATCH Personalized Solutions Shoulder System. This system enables surgeons to plan, design and order patient-specific 3D printed guides for shoulder operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following this, DePuy Synthes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strengthened its interbody implant portfolio<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which includes titanium integrated PEEK technology for minimally invasive spinal surgeries. Gary Clerkin, Global Leader, Manufacturing Engineering, Science &amp; Technology, DePuy Synthes, explained:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is crucial that we continue to deliver impactful research outcomes, and this advanced Materials and Surface Technology Centre will help accelerate innovation through the supply chain and shape the products of the future.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AMBER centre<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will continue its research project to develop 3D bioprinted implants for people suffering from osteoarthritis within DePuy Synthes&#8217; project.
