Russia\u2019s State Duma Committee on Economic Policy has prepared a proposal to establish an experimental legal regime for 3D printing<\/a> in construction, Russian newspaper Vedomosti has reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

The business daily publication stated that Deputy Chairman Artyom Kiryanov has outlined an initiative that has been under development since 2024, and which aims to create regulatory standards for 3D printing<\/a> in construction in the country. The technology has been in use in Russia since 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kiryanov was attributed as saying that the sandbox would not focus on proving technical feasibility, but on testing regulatory mechanisms in live conditions. The certification of 3D printed structures and which part<\/a>ies bear responsibility for algorithmic decisions during automated construction are key areas being addressed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposal was scheduled for submission to an inter-factional working group on art<\/a>ificial intelligence in February, followed by review by the Ministries of Construction, Economic Development, and Digital Development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Ministry of Construction confirmed that several regions had already completed projects using 3D printing<\/a> technology, including residential buildings, public centers, and hotels. The ministry acknowledged that <\/span>domestic manufacturers of 3D printing<\/a> equipment for construction were active in the market<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ministry also indicated that it considers the existing regulatory framework and development programs adequate for the technology\u2019s continued adoption, and that the experimental regime may not be deemed immediately necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

The regulatory sandbox model allows new technologies to operate under modified or temporary rules while officials assess risks and refine standards before broader implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 3D printing<\/a> of houses continues to gain traction. <\/span>Japanese firm Serendix launched a pilot project in Ukraine last year <\/span>to have a demo house completed by March of this year, with a view to a possible solution for reconstructing the nation\u2019s depleted housing stock, and <\/span>Italy\u2019s claimed first certified 3D printed house has just been completed<\/span><\/p>\n
