Omantel, the first telecommunications company in Oman, has part<\/a>nered with Innotech, an Omani 3D printing<\/a> start<\/a>up, to boost fish populations by 3D printing<\/a> art<\/a>ificial reefs using concrete. The use of 3D printing<\/a> technology offers several benefits with great importance in marine ecosystems. The companies will print eight 3D concrete units \u2013 which will act as a substrate for marine organisms to settle and grow \u2013 within Muscat.<\/p>\n

The 3D concrete printing technology enables the design and customization of reef structures, including complex features like crevices, caves, and ledges that enhance fish populations by providing shelter, and feeding grounds. The new initiative aims to increase fishery yields, promote sustainable fishing practices, promote marine biodiversity, and boost the local economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe depleting fish populations in the sea are a matter of concern all over the world. At Omantel, we are acutely aware of this situation and have therefore decided to part<\/a>ner with Innotech to support this initiative to boost fish yield by creating art<\/a>ificial reefs. InnoTech solely employs Omani graduates \u2013 from some of the biggest universities and colleges in Oman \u2013 to focus on modern technologies. The start<\/a>up has developed its own 3D printer \u2013 the first locally manufactured 3D concrete printer \u2013 and has obtained a patent for it.<\/p>\n

Successful implementation of art<\/a>ificial reefs using 3D concrete printing technology requires careful design, material composition, and ongoing controls \u2013 generating economic opportunities for local communities, including tourism-related businesses.<\/p>\n
