Maggy is a small wearable device helping you to maintain social distancing while keeping your privacy. It creates a sound and vibration notification whenever the distance between its users becomes too small.<\/p>\n

The reason why Maggy relied on a combination between a small wearable device and an optional mobile application<\/a>, is manifold. On the one hand, there\u2019s accuracy \u2013 standard smart<\/a>phone Bluetooth chips have an accuracy up to approximately 1 to 2 meters, whereas Maggy contains state-of-the-art<\/a> Bluetooth 5.1 and 5.2 chips, characterized by accuracy of approximately 10 to 15 centimeters.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, a wearable device has the advantage of being secure \u2013 No registration is necessary, and no user data are being saved. You just hand out the device to employees or to visitors and they are ready to go. Finally, Maggy contains a chargeable battery with a lifetime of up to five consecutive days. A number of leading Belgian companies and multinationals have expressed great interest in the solution.<\/p>\n

Launching a complex device in a short time<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After the initial product announcement, Maggy got overwhelmed with requests (45K+ pieces), and ramping up production of the custom-built PCB\u2019s and other components obviously take time. Consequently, Maggy had to find a solution that would enable them to organize limited scale beta tests in the short term, effectively bridging the production gap.<\/p>\n

In order to do just that, Maggy decided to rely on 3D printing<\/a>, more specifically on SLS<\/a> (selective laser sintering). Of all the available 3D Printing technologies, SLS<\/a> proved to be a true enabler on several levels \u2013 freedom of design, freedom of production, complex, inner geometries, smooth surface finish, detailed yet rigid part<\/a>s,\u2026 These are just some of the features made possible by this technology.<\/p>\n

However, mainstream SLS<\/a> technologies, despite yielding qualitative part<\/a>s, are still quite expensive and are not always accessible to smaller start<\/a>-ups or consumer<\/a>s. Therefore, Maggy searched for a part<\/a>ner who could support them in setting up a small series production run in both a qualitative and an affordable way. Maggy found PrintPlace.<\/p>\n
