Lockheed Mart<\/a>in Corporation, (NYSE: LMT), and Sintavia, LLC, have entered into a collaboration to expand research of metal additive manufacturing (AM) opportunities as an alternative to castings and forgings. AM, also known as 3D printing<\/a>, has the capability to improve efficiencies in existing castings and forgings supply chains and provide part<\/a>s with a higher level of detail and greater design opportunities.<\/p>\n

Sintavia is an AM supplier to Lockheed Mart<\/a>in, supporting several programs in the manufacture and production of metal additive part<\/a>s. The new collaboration will explore additional AM technology areas, including laser powder bed fusion, electron beam-directed energy<\/a> deposition and friction stir AM.<\/p>\n

This enhanced relationship builds on the White House initiative \u201cAM Forward,\u201d announced by President Joe Biden in May, a voluntary compact aimed at strengthening U.S. supply chains by supporting U.S.-based suppliers\u2019 adoption and deployment of AM.<\/p>\n

\u201cSintavia and Lockheed Mart<\/a>in are committed to improving the capability, agility and competitiveness of the defense industrial supply base,\u201d said Brian Neff, Sintavia\u2019s founder and CEO. \u201cOur part<\/a>nership with Lockheed Mart<\/a>in seeks to identify and streamline manufacturing inefficiencies, specifically in the production of flight critical structures.\u201d<\/p>\n
