The unique hybrid solution, which combines high-resolution additive manufacturing with the speed of bulk molding compound (BMC) overmolding to automate manufacturing, offers a cost-competitive option versus the traditional production of aluminum <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/aerospace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aerospace<\/a> p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s. 9T Labs\u2019 innovative and unique approach to continuous fiber 3D printed preform p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s has already shown tremendous promise in the transportation, <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/medical\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medical<\/a> and robotics industries, among others.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4509933617111980246.png\" class=\"aligncenter\">   9T\u2019s AMF solution for composites manufacturing   <\/p>\n<p>Purdue University\u2019s world-class Composite Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC) in West Lafayette, Ind., provides the necessary tools and resources to analyze, simulate and test the performance of composites. 9T Labs and Purdue worked collaboratively to develop the <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/insights\/applications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">application<\/a> workflow to efficiently engineer and manufacture high-performance p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s using BMC chips and continuous fiber 3D printed preforms. Initial testing shows that customized continuous fiber hybrid p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s can be digitally designed, 3D printed and co-molded with BMC materials, ensuring performance at only a fraction of the usual cost of continuous fiber materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraditional composite manufacturing is expensive, wasteful and limited in its geometric freedom, p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>icularly for small-sized <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/insights\/applications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">application<\/a>s,\u201d said Yannick Willemin, head of marketing and business development, 9T Labs. \u201cWe are defining a new composite manufacturing standard that allows us to produce structural composite p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s as easily as metal p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art<\/a>s. Bray distinguished professor of Engineering at Purdue University, Dr. R.
