It was in the air, and now it\u2019s official. TRUMPF has acquired the joint venture with SISMA in Italy completely which means the German company\u2019s additive business will now focus on the medical<\/a> and dental<\/a> businesses as well.<\/p>\n

Ditzingen-based TRUMPF and Vicenza-based SISMA Spa formed the joint venture in 2014 to co-develop their additive manufacturing businesses leveraging SISMA\u2019s LMF (laser metal fusion, a type of laser powder bed fusion) technology. This allowed TRUMPF to re-enter a market it had first explored during the previous decade and subsequently abandoned as considered not mature enough.<\/p>\n

Up to now, TRUMPF held 55 percent of the shares in the joint venture which led to the development of TRUMPF\u2019s TruPrint 1000 system first (which was based on SISMA\u2019s mysint 100 platform) and then on to the larger TruePrint 2000 and TruPrint 3000, with corresponding mysint systems from SISMA. As a result of the acquisition, TRUMPF will carry on SISMA\u2019s additive business in the industrial, dental<\/a>, and medical<\/a> markets. The two companies have now signed an agreement to this effect.<\/p>\n

In the context of the sale of the joint venture and its own LMF division, SISMA plans to focus on the jewelry and fashion<\/a> industry in the future and to distribute LMF machines from TRUMPF for these markets. TRUMPF SISMA is based in Schio in northern Italy. Around 60 employees work there in the development and production of metal 3D print<\/a>ing<\/a> machines with Laser Metal Fusion technology. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n

TRUMPF TruPrint 3000 system<\/p>\n

TRUMPF now covers the AM market with solutions in both the primary laser technologies: laser metal fusion (LMF) and laser metal deposition (LMD). The company is targeting the industrialization of 3D print<\/a>ing<\/a> via a complete solution comprising digitalization, services, and additive production systems. Overall TRUMPF has gained nearly 20 years of experience building robust and reliable laser 3D print<\/a>ers, as well as highly productive laser processing machines for industrial series production.<\/p>\n
