The technology enabled the restoration team to reproduce a critical carburetor component for the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 V-12 engine.<\/p>\n<p>HV3DWorks was founded in 2016 by Paul Vorbach, a specialist in <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/automotive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">automotive<\/a> restoration and customization. His company, like a number of others in the field, has recognized the benefits of additive manufacturing for restoring and fixing up old <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/automotive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vehicle<\/a>s, as it can be used in combination with 3D scanning and reverse engineering to cost and time efficiently manufacture obsolete or rare p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>s in low volumes. HV3DWorks\u2019 technology of choice is ExOne\u2019s metal binder jetting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/J7RFBb.jpg\">  Paul Vorbach, Owner of HV3DWorks LLC   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we learned about ExOne, and what they were doing with metal <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ing<\/a>, I recognized the potential of what we could do for the restoration business if we had the ability to access more of the p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>s we needed using additive,\u201d said Vorbach. \u201cThrough our p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>nership and collaboration with ExOne, and the use of the company\u2019s state-of-the-<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> additive technique, HV3DWorks is definitely on the cutting-edge within our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this instance, HV3DWorks was hired to create a p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> for a vintage 1969 Ferrari engine. The sports car needed a replacement p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> for the top bit of a Weber 40 DFI-6 carburetor because the original carburetor had stripped threads and leaked fuel. Interestingly, the car\u2019s owner owns a maintenance and restoration business for vintage cars, but had been unable to source the replacement p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> through the usual means. The HV3DWorks team recreated a model of the p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> and initially printed it in plastic to confirm its fit. Once the p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>\u2019s design was approved, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ed from 316 stainless steel with bronze infiltration using ExOne\u2019s M-Flex metal <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>er.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ed Weber 40 DFI-6 carburetor top was finalized within just 12 weeks (including the design and post-processing stages).
