Together, the companies are producing lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ed components for Arcimoto\u2019s Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV) with the aim of reducing costs and improving performance, efficiency and <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/environment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">environment<\/a>al friendliness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The joint project, which leverages <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ing<\/a> as well as ParaMatters\u2019 unique generative design software, CogniCAD, will explore the potential of using DfAM to lightweight p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>s for Arcimoto\u2019s FUV. If the project proves to be a success, the electric <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/automotive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vehicle<\/a> company will consider integrating more lightweighted components to replace traditionally manufactured p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>s in its electric <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/automotive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vehicle<\/a>s. Decreasing the overall weight of its <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/automotive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vehicle<\/a>s will lead to better battery efficiency (traveling more miles on a single charge), as well as better acceleration and handling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/jUVNfm.png\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/7zeim2.png\" class=\"aligncenter\">\n <\/div>\n<div>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/iiAFV3.png\" class=\"aligncenter\">\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Using ParaMatters\u2019 CogniCAD software (which you can read about in more depth here), Arcimoto and XponentialWorks tackled the redesign of four main components: a rear swing arm, knuckle, upper control arm and brake pedal. In all cases, significant weight reductions were achieved.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>The rear swing arm saw a weight reduction of <strong>34%<\/strong> compared to the original p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The knuckle saw a weight reduction of <strong>36%<\/strong> compared to the original p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The upper control arm saw a weight reduction of <strong>52%<\/strong> compared to the original p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>And the brake pedal saw a weight reduction of <strong>49%<\/strong> compared to the original p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/RfArYv.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><span>The weight reductions were achieved thanks to the software\u2019s ability to generate nature-inspired geometries, which reduce material use and weight without sacrificing structural integrity and strength. CogniCAD is an AI-powered platform that generates p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> geometries based on design goals and material parameters.
