The firm points out on its blog that \u201cthe reason for the <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ed p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> is unclear. Though it is likely to ensure production continues uninterrupted. The HVAC housing is an exceptionally large molded p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a>. The cost and time of manufacturing are huge, even by injection molding standards. It would not be unsurprising if the mold for this p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> required 6-8 weeks to produce and cost as much as $250-500,000. That is a huge production delay, especially for the frenetic pace that Tesla Operates at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/facfox-upload.oss-us-east-1.aliyuncs.com\/image\/2020\/11\/Eb2uMn.png\"><\/p>\n<p>The original mold for the p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> likely contained an imperfection so it would have had to be redesigned and reproduced. This would have caused a launch delay in normal times and possibly even more so in COVID-19 times. So Tesla resorted to <a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/service\/3d-printing-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D print<\/a>ing<\/a>. Similar practices for p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> repair are somewhat common in metal cladding but has not yet been seen in polymer p<a href=\"https:\/\/facfox.com\/news\/topics\/art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art<\/a> production. Stratasys and Siemens (and Boeing and Ford) have been working on this kind of AM hardware, mainly for depositing composite materials.<\/p>\n<p>With all the robotic arms automating production in Tesla\u2019s factory, adding a polymer extrusion engine seems a relatively straight-forward process.
