Parametric modeling allows the creation of complex geometries for 3D printing with high precision and possibilities of modification in the design process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sub-heading\">Types of design processes<\/h2>\n<p>CAD design is the most common way to obtain a 3D file for 3D printing but there are many ways to design an object in a CAD software before 3D printing it.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">Parametric modeling<\/h3>\n<p>The most used by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sculpteo.com\/en\/applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">professional designers and industrials<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0<strong>parametric modelling<\/strong>. The principle is to define parameters on the components of your sketch and the different features. The components will then be parametrically driven and easily modified thanks to the tree history. More, you can mathematically define relationship for parameters that allows modifying the design of your object by changing a few values.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">Direct modeling<\/h3>\n<p>This technique is more natural and \u201c<em>on-the-fly<\/em>\u201d than parametric modeling. The<strong>\u00a0direct modeling<\/strong>\u00a0(or\u00a0<em><strong>Explicit modeling<\/strong><\/em>) technique focuses on the model geometry to create the object that can be easily shared, modified and iterated.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">Surface modeling<\/h3>\n<p>Based on a\u00a0<em>Nurbs system<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>surface modeling<\/strong>\u00a0is a technique that allows free geometry and more natural shapes from curves. These sketches contain dimensions, constraints and relationship between the elements of your drawing.
