There are interesting collections of the architectural models that can be 3D printed on both FDM and SLA desktop machines. Crowdfunding campaigns were launched on Kickstarter featuring historical traditional buildings\u2019 designs for 3D printing. So far there are Chinese, Slavic, Wild West, Viking, and Maya buildings\u2019 sets published and showcased using astonishing renders. With the creator\u2019s permission, we used a few images to publish them here.<\/p>\n

As we suspect that there will be other civilizations\u2019 traditional buildings featured in the future. This collection has already attracted interest of collectors, architecture designers, and even tabletop game decorators. As the \u201cstretch goals\u201d kept getting accomplished quickly, we saw more and more sophisticated designs emerging in the particular collections. In some cases, \u201cstretch goals\u201d include objects and features that do not belong to the architecture but definitely add a feel of a particular historical time frame. As an example, a \u201cStagecoach\u201d object was added to the Wild West collection or a \u201cWar Boat\u201d to the Viking collection. Below you can see a few teasers.<\/p>\n

Traditional Chinese Buildings<\/h2>\n

This was the first campaign that attracted our attention. The collection of renders varied\u00a0from basic Chinese huts to gorgeous mansions and palaces<\/a>. It also includes such elements as bridges, canopies, and statues, and even a small collection of stone lanterns.<\/p>\n

Slavic Buildings With Original Historical Features<\/h2>\n

Influenced by Byzantine architecture, all sorts of\u00a0Slavic buildings<\/a>\u00a0have been popular in modern Western Russia and Ukraine since 988 AD. As the project creators were born and raised in Russia, they are familiar with the historical and cultural architecture first hand. You may come across such unusual building names, like \u201cBarin\u2019s House\u201d, which could be translated as the \u201cNobleman\u2019s House\u201d. Together with a big collection of buildings, there is also a Mill model.<\/p>\n

Wild West Buildings For 3D Printing<\/h2>\n

Wild wild west, cowboys and guns. All main street buildings are in a collection: a Hotel, Gun Smith, a Bank, and even a Saloon. These models reminded us of the Holywood movie decorations. Such small-town\u00a0buildings were common until the early 20 century<\/a>. This collection has a few extra themed designs like a \u201cLone Cowboy\u201d, a \u201cHorse\u201d and \u201cThe gallows\u201d.<\/p>\n

Retro Chicago Architecture<\/h2>\n

Viking Buildings For 3D Printing<\/h2>\n

Viking shields on the hut\u2019s door or the roof is a must have feature in the fantasy tabletop gaming. And apparently, it has been like that historically. An additional model a \u201cWar boat\u201d is also well decorated traditionally with the shields.\u00a0The Viking buildings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ancient Maya Buildings For 3D Printing<\/h2>\n

These are\u00a0pre-Columbian era ancient Maya buildings<\/a>. Cracks and missing parts on the architecture, worn by time, pointing to the archaeological value of such buildings. If your project or collection needs the \u201cancient feel\u201d, these models will definitely add it.<\/p>\n

Dark Middle Age<\/h2>\n

Check the range of medieval heavy weapons such as ballistae, catapults, and trebuchets. We guess the author found inspiration in books as some of the models are definitely not historical but fictional. In any case, their features resemble those from the\u00a0distant past of the dark ages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Greek Architecture<\/h2>\n

Ancient Greece\u00a0temples, and their ruins, and columns, columns, columins<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

There have been a lot of successful\u00a03D design and 3D printer crowdfunding campaigns\u00a0in recent years. Backers are keen to support projects that are add-ons to their beloved newly found hobby. These fundraising campaigns offer an opportunity to take part in the birth of new concepts for 3D printing machines, software, materials, etc. In the table, you can find cherry-picked 3D printing related startups that caught our eye.
