What is Wall Angle?

Wall Angle controls how the analyzer decides whether two surfaces form a real wall.

For each face, a ray is cast inward. If it hits an opposing surface, the distance is the wall thickness.

How Angle Filtering Works

Not every ray hit is a valid wall. The angle between the two surface normals determines if it counts.

Top: normals are 180 degrees apart (perfectly opposing) -- valid wall.
Bottom: normals are only ~60 degrees apart -- rejected.

The Threshold Formula

A ray hit is accepted as a valid wall only when:

dot(normal_A, normal_B) < -cos(wall_angle)

At the default 45 degrees, this means the angle between the two normals must be greater than 135 degrees (i.e. mostly pointing at each other).

In plain terms: the two faces must be within 45 degrees of being perfectly opposite to be counted as a wall pair.

When to Adjust

Lower value (e.g. 20 degrees) -- Stricter. Only nearly parallel walls count. Best for flat, prismatic parts like boxes or brackets.

Default 45 degrees -- Good general-purpose setting. Works for most mechanical parts.

Higher value (e.g. 70 degrees) -- More permissive. Angled and curved walls also count. Best for organic shapes, sculptures, or parts with draft angles.

Tip: If you see too many red (thin) areas that don't look right, try increasing the wall angle. If you get unrealistic thick readings, try lowering it.
